| Rude Mechanicals presents "hour-minute-second" -- the inaugural production in our brand-new Second Stage series. An absurd, melancholy pastiche of bold narratives and original music, "hour-minute-second" is a personality test gone haywire where essay questions spank your bottom and even the audience must know the difference between true and false. Texans drown in vegetable oil, praying ladies sing of Nancy Reagan, and old boyfriends say "let's bury the hatchet and drink frozen Pepsi!" A peripatetic meditation on foreskin, regret, and -- dare we say it? -- the human condition. WHEN: February 7 - 15, 2003 WHERE: The Off Center TICKETS: $10 general admission ABOUT THE SECOND STAGE: The Second Stage Series is a new introduction into Rude Mechs' traditional season and "hour-minute-second" is the inaugural production in the newly launched series. The second stage was introduced to give Rude Mechs' enormously talented company members more creative opportunities to workshop new work and flex their theatrical muscles in a casual late night atmosphere. Other Second Stage performances slated for the rest of the season include "300 Plays about Vladimir Putin" curated by Jose Hernandez and "Different Cities, Different Names" by Kirk Lynn, directed by Gavin Mundy. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: "hour-minute-second" is the brainchild of director Jon Watson,
long time Rude Mechs' company member who is probably best known as one
of Austin's favorite actors. His most memorable performances include
acclaimed work in many Rude Mechs' productions (BIG LOVE, IN THE HOUSE
OF THE MOLES) and at Zachary Scott Theatre (ART, SHAKESPEARE'S R&J,
ABUNDANCE). Jon's chief collaborator on "hour-minute-second"
is writer Rebecca Beegle. Rebecca recently returned to Texas after 14
years in Chicago where she was the 1999-2001 Recipient of the Trustee
Fellowship at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Masters in
Writing program. Jon's original music and lyrics will be performed live
by John Botti and Jeremy Edwards. The 2 person cast includes Yasmin
Kittles, a graduating Theatre and Dance senior at the University of
Texas who's most recent roles inlcude "Blanche DuBois" in
The Bedlam Faction's "Reefer Madness" and the Minnelli/Cosby
combination "Green Beans" in Shannon Mccormick's opus "GNAP#1!"
and Blake DeLong who was most recently seen in the Pollyanna Theatre
Company's "Christmas Rose." (Due to an unforseen ilness, Yasmin
Kittles has replaced Betsy McCann for the run of "hour-minute-second.") |
